Guided by Experience. Built on New Mexico Ground.
Meet Martin - A seasoned guide with a lifetime of experience hunting and guiding across New Mexico’s diverse terrain
Martin Ortiz was born and raised in Las Vegas, New Mexico—not the city of bright lights and casinos, but a tight-knit community in the northeastern part of the state. Growing up there meant choosing sides between the rival East and West Las Vegas high schools, where football season brought the entire town together. During his high school years, Martin played basketball and baseball, but it was outside the gym and ballfield where his true passion began to take shape.
From an early age, Martin felt most at home outdoors. Rivers, lakes, and fishing holes became his classrooms, where he spent countless hours learning water, fish behavior, and the patience that comes with time afield. Many days ended with him riding his bike home carrying a bucket of fish he’d caught on his own. By sixth grade, he received his first BB gun, and it quickly became a constant companion as he explored river bottoms and backcountry terrain, learning awareness, discipline, and respect for wildlife while pursuing small game.

A few years later, Martin drew his first elk tag in northeastern New Mexico and was invited on his first big-game hunt by a friend and his father. His grandfather loaned him a .30-30 lever-action rifle, marking the beginning of a journey that would define his life. Hunting wasn’t deeply rooted in his family, which made the experience even more meaningful—it was something uniquely his own. That hunt ended successfully with his first bull elk, solidifying a lifelong passion for big-game hunting and a deep respect for the land.
That early success only fueled Martin’s dedication to the outdoors. Over the years, he continued hunting, fishing, and camping at every opportunity. Eventually, a friend working as a guide encouraged him to pursue guiding himself. After interviewing and assisting with calling duties for an outfitter, Martin was hired as a guide. Nervous but excited, he took his first client into the field and quickly discovered that building relationships—sharing stories about family, work, and hunting—was just as important as success in the field.
Over the past decade, Martin has guided hunters from across the country and been part of countless successful and memorable hunts. Those experiences inspired him to take the next step and build his own outfitting operation in New Mexico, offering guided hunts across the diverse landscapes he knows intimately.
Having hunted and guided every species the state has to offer, Martin’s goal is simple: to provide honest, high-quality, and memorable hunting experiences for every client. For him, guiding isn’t just a profession—it’s the continuation of a lifelong passion that began along riverbanks, dirt roads, and campfires beneath New Mexico skies.
